Among the downsides of using a pulse oximeter at home, says Ungerleider, is the potential for increased anxiety as a result of frequent checking. Worse, though, is the possibility that you’ll ignore physical symptoms that are accompanied by a normal-appearing oxygen level. Regardless of what your pulse oximeter shows, she says, « you should still call your healthcare professional if you have severe shortness of breath, chest pain, unrelenting cough or high fever ».

The rise has made Tesla more valuable than some of the world’s largest automakers, including Toyota and Volkswagen.
Until recently, unless you worked in healthcare, you’d probably never heard of a pulse oximeter. But on Sunday, emergency physician Richard Levitan made a compelling case for owning one in a New York Times op-ed, writing that « all persons with cough, fatigue and fevers should also have pulse oximeter monitoring even if they have not had virus testing ». An article in Quartz, meanwhile, reported that most of us would be fine without one. We spoke to experts to get to the bottom of it all.

According to the Brasília-based website Metrópoles, President Jair Bolsonaro’s security chiefs are cooking up plans that could radically disfigure three of the modernist palaces at the heart of Niemeyer’s masterpiece.
Bolsonaro was the victim of a pre-election assassination attempt in 2018. But since the far-right populist took office last year, the most serious physical attacks on Brazil’s corridors of power have been the work of his own hard-line supporters.

If the life story of Tim « Ripper » Owens reads like some sugar-spun Hollywood fiction, it is. Sort of. Owens’s journey forms the basis for the Warner Brothers movie Rock Star, which stars Mark Wahlberg in the Ripper role and is released in the UK next month. The film coincides nicely with a new Judas Priest album (Demolition) and an accompanying tour. The only problem is that Owens doesn’t like the movie one bit. The band is considering taking legal action.

The antennas – reportedly designed to detect and « neutralize » drones – would be supported by diagonal cables, creating a pyramid-style effect above the stunning low-rise structures.
Additionally, the reading isn’t particularly useful on its own. « It can’t replace a visit or call with the doctor who can assess all of your symptoms and how they relate to any underlying medical conditions you have, » explains Stephen Parodi, infectious disease physician and associate executive director of the Northern California Permanente Medical Group.
Tim Owens was one of them. Born to working-class stock near the tyre factories of Akron, he became hooked on the band when his elder brother tripped home with the Screaming for Vengeance album in 1983. Before long, Owens was a Priest disciple, plastering images of his idols across the bedroom wall. In adulthood, he remained their number-one fan. When his regular group (Winter’s Bane) had trouble getting booked, it reinvented itself as British Steel, covering Priest classics in venues across Ohio.
Do I need to get one?If you haven’t been diagnosed with Covid-19, or aren’t suspected to have it, home pulse oximeters « aren’t necessary », says Shoshana Ungerleider, an internist at Crossover Health in San Francisco. This is particularly true if you’re not experiencing coronavirus symptoms, such as trouble breathing, severe cough or chest pain, and haven’t established a baseline.
